Swine Production Partnerships

Building A Legacy for Generations

" My father gave me the opportunity to come back and farm with him,
and then passed it on to me. I want to give my sons the same chance and
keep our farm going for generations to come." --- Carl Clark, 3rd Generation
Vermilion County Farmer and Equity Swine Production Partner

The Equity has a rich history serving Central Illinois and Western Indiana's agriculture community. Since its founding in 1919 to give members greater buying power The Equity has continually expanded over the last 100 years to better meet the needs of the current and future agriculture community.

While there are numerous options available in the swine contract feeding industry, The Equity has assembled a livestock production team that cares about your bottom line. Swine production is a 365-day commitment and requires dedication to ensure the pigs are receiving the best quality care. Our livestock production team has over 100 years’ combined experience in swine production. The team includes early pig care specialists, field advisors and veterinarians. Our team is there to help producers with little to no experience, excel and have a rewarding experience in swine management.

In addition to our experienced team, The Equity has invested in a new state of the art feed mill at our Horace location in Eastern Illinois. This new mill, along with the investment made by our production partners will ensure swine production to remain a vital part of the local communities and keep future generations involved in farming operations.

The Equity is committed to minimizing our environmental impact and preserving natural resources, as well as helping to improve the economies of the rural farming communities we serve.

Why Swine Producer Partnerships?

Opportunities

Pork Industry Growth --- Since 1990, the United States exports for pork have grown from just under 2 billion pounds to roughly 14 billion pounds nad is on trend to grow to 16 billion pounds by 2024. By 2050, the global pork demand will require a 50% increse in production.

Packer Expansion --- The increase in demand for pork has also lead to an increase in demand for packers for processing. Five new packers are scheduled to come on-line between 2016 and 2018. Those plants when completed will be processing on average an additional 38,000 head per day, or 9.5 million head annually.

Feed Mill Expansion --- The Equity has invested in the construction of a new feed mill in Horace, IL. This feed mill will increase the demand for corn in East Central Illinois. Estimated annual usage of corn will be 6-7 million bushels, which would account for roughly 40,000 acres.

Swine Facilities Expansion --- In order to fulfill the tonnage coming out of the feed mill in Horace, IL The Equity is targeting the construction of wean to finish production facilities. These facilities will receive newly weaned piglets and will be reared up to market weight at 6 months of age. Facilities will raise two batches of pigs per year. Lastly, we have assembled a production team with over 80 years' experience working with people and pigs to support the families that begin this partnership with us.

Benefits

Consistent Income and Diversification --- Building a contract barn provides diversification and steady cashflow to an operation during a cycle in the agriculture economy. With the grower not owning the animals or providing the feed for the animals, they are not directly exposed to risks related to fluctuation in commodity prices.

Long Term Equity Growth --- Utilizing long term financing allows farmers to leverage a smaller down-payment into significant long term equity as the debt is retired from monthly contract payments from the integrator.

Depreciation --- Accelerated depreciation for the barn often offsets other farm income, which may be used as part of a tax plan for an individual.

Transition Plan --- For someone looking to move equity or assets to the next generation, building a contract barn can be advantageous. There are a few different approaches to consider. The more simple options include: gifting land for the site or pledging collateral for the loan.

Access to Manure --- For many row crop farmers, finishing barns provide a steady and historically inexpensive way to access manure for fertilizer.
