About the Position
The Equity is seeking a Swine Management Intern who is pursuing a B.S. at a four-year college/university with a major in Animal Science or related fields. Candidates with strong communication, analytical, and time management skills combined with previous animal science experience should apply.
The internship will expose students to Feed, Air, Water, and Health Care Management Practices at our facilities in the Effingham and Champaign areas.
Internship learning experiences will include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in oversight of Wean to Finish barns
- Monitor the role feed management plays in the growth of the pigs
- Properly evaluate air quality and ensure barn ventilation is correct
- Learn how to adjust barns to provide the best environment
- Identify sick pigs and utilize necropsy as needed
- Recommend intervention methods that consider efficacy and cost
