Effingham - Assistant Controller


The Assistant Controller oversees fixed asset records, lease accounting, and tax reporting while ensuring accurate financial reconciliations and supporting cash management. This role contributes to financial reporting, audit preparation, and stock management, maintaining key records and compliance. Additional responsibilities include general ledger reconciliations and assisting with various financial processes as needed.

$60,000 - $80,000 annually

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for fixed asset records, including the tracking of acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Responsible for the accounting of all company leases.
  • Responsible for monthly sales tax returns.  Including but not limited to reconciling sales, preparing schedules, and calculation of use tax on invoices and company use products.
  • Complete the Motor Fuel Tax reconciliation of accounts
  • Oversee the reconciliation of loan account balances.
  • Assist with cash management items as needed.
  • Complete End of Month Close Process.
  • Assists in the preparation of financial reports and various management reports as needed.
  • Assists in planning and preparing company records for the annual year end audit.
  • Manage company stock including but not limited to issuing stock certificates, liquidating equity accounts, recordkeeping for each stockholder, and preparation of 1099s.
  • Handles general ledger reconciliations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Leadership Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field, CPA preferred
  • Minimum 3 years’ accounting experience required 
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret accounting standards, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, employees and customers
  • Possesses exceptional organizational skills and is an effective time manager and multi-tasker
  • Ability to work effectively without direct supervision is essential

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  Duties of the job require confidentiality.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and listen.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.   This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies up to 20 pounds.

Travel

The employee may be required to travel to other facilities in The Equity trade area, conferences, educational opportunities, and other job-related activities.
