FEEDING INSTRUCTIONS:

In any calf-raising program, it is important that calves receive first milk colostrum during the first 24 hours of life (first feeding within 1 hour following birth). Begin feeding MILK REPLACER on the second day of life.

Mixing:

Sprinkle 12 oz (0.75 lb) of milk replacer into a bucket of warm water (110*F) and bring to a total volume of 2 quarts. Mix reconstituted milk replacer as needed for immediate feefing. With large batches, agitate mix for individual dispensing to minimize settling and feeding of improper levels. Each quart of milk replacer will then contain 9.47 mg of lasalocid and 1.71 mg of diflubenzuron.

Always make reconstituted milk replacer as neededfor immediate feeding.

Feeding:

Beginning on day 2, introduce milk replacer. Feed as listed below twice per day to provide 45.4 mg of lasalocid per 100 lb body weight per day.
Calf Weight (lb) mg Lasalocid required per calf per day Quarts fed per feeding twice a day
63 28.4 1.5
83 37.9 2
104 47.3 2.5
125 56.8 3

Feed at the above rates to prevent the emergence of adult house flies, stable flies, horn flies and face flies from manure of treated cattle. Existing adult flies will not be affected. Start feeding 30 days before flies begin to appear and continure feeding until cold weather restricts fly activity. In some cases, supplemental control measures may be need in and around barns and calf hutches to control adult house and stable flies, which can breed in other decaying organic matter or silage in the area, or that migrate in from other locations.

Cold Weather Feeding: Add 1-2 oz per feeding of high-quality hi-fat source to increase the total energy level of the milk replacer during periods of cold stress.

MANAGEMENT TIPS:

  • For best mixing, sprinkle milk replacer powder onto water.
  • Use a wire whisk to agitate powder and water.
  • Fresh, clean water should be available at all times.
  • Feeding and mixing equipment should be cleaned thoroughly after each feeding.
  • Introduce a good-quality calf starter at 7 days of age.
  • Offer free-choice hay after weaning.
  • Wean calves when eating at least 2.5 to 3 lb calf starter per head per day for 3 consecutive days.

WARNING:  Withdrawl period has not been established for lasalocid in pre-ruminating calves. Do not use in calves to be processed for veal.

CAUTION: The safety of lasalocid in unapproved species has not been established. Do not allow horses or other equines access to feeds containing lasalocid as ingestion may be fatal. This product was made in a feed manufacturing facility that does not handle or store products containing animal proteins prohibited in ruminant feed.
